FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Whether this is your first experience with therapy or you've worked with a therapist before, it's natural to wonder what the process will be like.

Below are some of the questions I hear most often. If you don't see your question answered here, you're always welcome to reach out.

What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and talk about what brought you to therapy. We'll discuss your current concerns, your history, and what you'd like to be different in your life. We'll also begin identifying goals for therapy and discussing how I can best support you. You don't need to have everything figured out before your first appointment, and you don't have to share anything you're not ready to discuss. We'll move at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

What if I've never been to therapy before?

That's completely okay. You don't need to know how therapy works, what to talk about, or what your goals should be before you begin. I'll guide you through the process and answer any questions you have along the way. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive environment where you can be yourself without feeling judged.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. People seek therapy for many different reasons—anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, trauma, self-esteem, personal growth, or simply feeling like something isn't quite right. If you're noticing that something is interfering with your emotional well-being, relationships, or ability to enjoy your life, therapy may be a helpful place to begin.

How often will we meet?

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances. Many clients begin with weekly sessions so we can establish consistency and build momentum, while others may benefit from a different schedule. We'll discuss what makes sense for you and adjust as your needs change.

How long are therapy sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50-55 minutes. Your initial session may be structured somewhat differently as we spend time getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy.

What concerns do you help with?

I work with clients experiencing concerns such as: • Anxiety and overthinking • Depression and emotional well-being • Trauma and difficult past experiences • Management of mood related difficulties • Life transitions and major changes • Relationship concerns • Self-esteem and confidence • Boundaries and people-pleasing • Stress and burnout • Perfectionism • Grief and loss • Emotional regulation If you don't see your specific concern listed, you're still welcome to reach out. We can discuss what you're experiencing during a consultation and determine whether my approach may be a good fit.

What types of therapy do you use?

I take an individualized and integrative approach to therapy. Rather than using a single approach with every client, I draw from evidence-based modalities based on your needs and goals. My approaches may include: • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) • Trauma-Focused CBT • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) • Psychodynamic Therapy • Solution-Focused Therapy • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) • Mindfulness-Based Approaches • Strengths-Based Therapy The approach we use will depend on what you're experiencing and what will be most helpful for you.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. I offer both in person and online. I offer secure telehealth sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and flexibility of meeting virtually. Telehealth availability and eligibility depend on location and applicable requirements.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept select insurance plans through Headway. Insurance participation is based on your specific plan and my current credentialing status. Insurance and billing are coordinated through Headway. During the scheduling process, you can provide your insurance information and determine your coverage and expected out-of-pocket costs. You are able to add your private-pay information if applicable. Currently accepted insurance plans may include: • Aetna • Cigna • UnitedHealthcare • Oxford • Oscar • Optum • Blue Cross Blue Shield (select plans) Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans: I am currently in the credentialing process with select Medicare Advantage/Medicaid plans through Headway. Availability will depend on the specific plan and completion of credentialing. Not sure whether your insurance is accepted? Insurance networks and individual plan benefits can vary. If you're unsure whether your plan is currently in-network, please reach out for assistance with verifying your coverage before scheduling.

Do you offer private-pay sessions?

Yes. Private-pay appointments are available for clients who prefer not to use insurance or whose insurance is not accepted.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Getting started is simple. You can schedule online through the website. We'll begin with a brief consultation to discuss what you're looking for, answer any questions you may have, and determine whether my services may be a good fit.

What happens if I'm not sure you're the right therapist for me?

That's completely understandable. Finding the right therapist is important, and therapy is a personal experience. The initial consultation gives both of us an opportunity to determine whether we may be a good fit. You should feel comfortable asking questions about my approach, experience, and how I work. If I don't feel I'm the best fit for what you're looking for, I'll do my best to help point you toward appropriate resources.

Is therapy confidential?

Privacy and confidentiality are important parts of creating a safe therapeutic relationship. Information shared during therapy is generally kept confidential, with certain legal and ethical exceptions. These exceptions will be discussed with you as part of the informed-consent process.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

There's no universal timeline for therapy. Some clients seek support for a specific concern or life transition and may benefit from shorter-term work. Others choose longer-term therapy to explore longstanding patterns, relationships, trauma, or personal growth. We'll regularly evaluate your progress and goals together so that therapy continues to serve a meaningful purpose.

What if I don't know what I need?

You don't have to. Sometimes you simply know that you're overwhelmed, unhappy, stuck, or not feeling like yourself. You may not know exactly why you feel this way or what needs to change. That's okay. Part of therapy is creating the space to slow down, understand what you're experiencing, and discover what you need moving forward.

You don't have to have all the answers before you begin.
